Looking for a fun online game that builds English Language Arts skills? Students love Synonym Bingo, and it works for elementary all the way up through high school! It’s played just like traditional bingo, except the teacher will call a word and students will search for its synonym on their bingo cards.
How to Play:
This game is meant to be played remotely, with the teacher sharing their screen and students on their own computers.
Students will click “A Player,” and see a unique bingo board. This board is full of synonyms for words you’ll display on your screen. For example, you would display the word “hot” and your students will search their board to find the word “scorching.” They will click “scorching” to mark it. When a student gets five synonyms in a row, column, or diagonal, they should call out bingo and then check their chosen synonyms against the words you called. Students can click the “Copy my board!” button to make a copy of their screen, which they can send to you to check that they won.
As the teacher, you’ll be sharing your screen. Students will look at your screen to see a list of words called. You will choose “The Caller,” and begin clicking the “Draw Ball” button. You can either choose to click the “show synonym” button immediately, wait for students to share out the appropriate synonym as they find it on their board, or not share the synonym at all.
